SAMOA TOURIST SHELTER
PRE-TENDER DRAWINGS
Cultural expression
Wavefront created the conceptual design and pre-tender construction drawings for a tourist shelter prototype to be constructed throughout the Apia waterfront. Wavefront collaborated with public and private sector stakeholders who selected a contemporary style with reference to Samoa’s cultural identity. The final design resembles the traditional Samoan fale (house) with a series of pillars but with a curved shape to create visual interest and solar panels on the roof for illumination and USB charging stations. The paving pattern around the shelter resembles the ula nifu (traditional Samoan necklace) and the raised structure was designed to be accessible.
